Keith Family Genealogy Forum

Through the process of researching my mother's side of the family (which I've reached back as 1788, but no earlier), I've found not only that it is less and less likely that we are descendants of Sir William Keith of early Pennsylvanian history, I've also found more and more relatives that were told long ago that they were. With the amount of material online pertaining to figures like him and James Francis Edward Keith, I can see why people get carried away and unintentionally skew their family tree to fit these famous Keiths into the line somewhere, but over fifty years ago, where were these farmers in Pennsylvania getting their information? Much of the information I've seen on Sir William's children is based on "Baronage of Scotland", published in 1798, though the written account comes from sometime before the author's death in 1770, who mentions that after the death of Alexander Henry Keith, only a month or so before his father's death at the Old Bailey prison in London, the only other son was Sir Robert Keith, who joined James Francis Edward Keith in the Prussian army, and later joins the Danish army, has two sons, one of which also joins the Danish army, and that's as far as it goes. However, other children of Sir William I've seen mentioned elsewhere include Jane, William, and James. Are there any records of them and their families? Every public family tree on Ancestry.com seems to tie into Alexander or Adam Keith of Huntingdon County, Pennsylvania, and from them, directly to Sir William or James Keith, which seems pretty unlikely. Are there any good sources for this info, or at the very least, a carefully-made family tree?
