Val, thank you for all the hard work your putting into this branch of the Keith Family. We can use all the information we can get as it has not been thoroughly researched. I too noticed Agnes Mackoy instead of McCoy back in 2005 when I was gathering marriage records from Mason County. As for Agnes being Eliza's mother in law and 1st Cousin once removed...I can see this occuring. Our ancestor's definitely liked to keep it in the family! LOL
A word of caution: Not everything on LDS is correct! Appears there was a time period in which almost anyone could submit their family for sealing. Unfortunately not all of the submissions were documented. So we find ourselves sifting through records which were based on (not all but many of them) word of mouth from generation to generation. We know all to well that what our immediate ancestor's were told was not alway's true.
Keep your postings coming...I so enjoy reading them and they give me food for thought.

Mary Ann Holmes Keith; the following childrens death certificates state Mary Ann (Marian) Holmes as their mother and Millard Fillmore Keith (her son) stated she was born in Belmont, Ohio with her parents being born in PA. John D. Keith her husband as being born in Mason Co., Kentucky. Anyway, America, Pendleton, John Tyler, Sarah Agnes, Burwell and Millard all have Mary Ann or Marian Holmes as their mother's maiden name. I'm of the same opinion as you in that the 1850 Census where HOLMES is written on the census that a researcher at some point and time wrote this on the original census. As for the marriage record stating Thomas? She may have been married briefly to a Thomas prior to John D. Keith or it was an error by the clerk. Perhaps one day we will find another document that will explain the Thomas surname.

I did locate a Census in Pendleton County which show's a Samuel Holmes and wife Sarah who were from PA with their children being born in Ohio. The puzzling thing is that one of the childrens name is Mary b. abt 1806 Ohio. We know Mary Ann or Maranne was already married to John D. Perhaps her name was Mariann and not Mary Ann. All of the records switch between the two version's. What do you think?

Rhonda
