Josiah Keith, New Haven, VT, 1850

The 1999 posting by by Diane Wolford has been a great help for my research into my Percival ancestry. However, it appears that she is mistaken in the matter of Josiah's marriages. His first wife, and the mother of his children was Ruth. He married Rebecca after his marriage to Ruth ended. He is still married to Rebecca in 1850.

Rebecca is in my percival line. She is the widow of Stephen Percival, who died in 1827. Josiah was a miller and he passed the trade on to Rebecca's youngest son, Philo as wellas to his own son, Josiah Jr.

I noted that one of Josiah's sons was named George Evitts. One naming convention gives the wife's maiden name as a middle name for a son. I checked the census reports for Keith and found that George Kkeith lived near an Evitts family in Litchfield Co., CT before moving to VT.

Josiah move to Hartwick, Otsego Co., NY before 1840 and then back to Hew Haven before 1850.

Jim
