NOTE: For the initial post above, i meant to reference Rhonda's post, which detailed information regarding George Thomas KEITH (son of George Fleming KEITH and Agnes McCOY Keith):

As mentioned above, the 1880 Liberty Wells, Indiana Census, shows both the family of George T. (Thomas) KEITH and the family of (presumably) his brother Frank E. (Frances Edward) KEITH (including wife Elizabeth Z.)

The 1880 census shows RELATIONSHIPS to the heads of the respective households, but not the years married. But looking ahead to the 1900 Waukomis village, Garfield, Oklahoma Territory Census (of June 6, 1900), Frances E. Keith and his wife Zerilda E. are shown as married for 33 years, which would mean they married in 1866 or 1867.

Also, this would mean that as of the 1860 Pendleton County, Kentucky Census, Falmouth Post Office Census, where Eliza first appears, she and Frank would not have been married yet. BUT, she is listed as Eliza KEITH. That begs the question, was she born a KEITH (and was, perhaps, a "kissin' cousin") or was she previously married to a KEITH and became widowed? (Her parents are shown as both being born in Kentucky).

i have no answer at this time.

More on the 1880 Liberty Wells, Indiana Census:
~ In the "Elizabeth Z. and Frank E. KEITH" household (#160), there are two children, NEITHER of whom are their OWN children:

1. John A. FURGUSON, age 11, born in INDIANA, father born in PENNSYLVANIA, mother born in INDIANA. John A. FURGUSON's relationship to the head of the household (Frank E. KEITH) appears to be 'Servant' (the word is a bit difficult to decipher), and he is also shown as 'At School'.

2. Elizabeth M. KEITH, age 9, born in KENTUCKY and both parents born in KY. Elizabeth M. KEITH's relationship to the head of the household (Frank E. KEITH) is shown as 'Niece', and she is also shown as 'At School'.

*

~ In the "Eliza J. (HARMON) and George T. KEITH" household (#167), there are their own 4 children (daughter Martha A. - age 12; son Charles W.- age 10; twin Eliza A. – age 8; and twin George A.- age 8) PLUS two other children who are not their own:

1. Jane FURGUSON, age 15, born in INDIANA, father born in PENNSYLVANIA, mother also born in PA. Jane FURGUSON's relationship to the head of the household (George T. KEITH) also appears to be 'Servant', and she is shown as having attended school in the past year.

2. William A. KEITH, age 15, born in OHIO, father born in KY, mother born in OH. William A. KEITH's relationship to the head of the household (George T. KEITH) is shown as 'Nephew', and he is shown as a 'Laborer', who attended school in the past year.

*

So ... in 1880, in Indiana, we have two KEITH brothers (George T. and Francis/Frank E.):
~ each with a Furguson (perhaps should be spelled 'Ferguson') child, who may be siblings, but whose mothers are shown as born in different states, AND
~ each with a KEITH niece/nephew, who may be siblings but who were born in different states and whose mothers are shown as born in different states.

Going forward:
The 1900 Waukomis village, Garfield, Oklahoma Territory Census shows Frances E. KEITH and his wife of 33 years, "Zerilda E." Zerilda is shown as having had one child, who is no longer alive as of 1900.

There are, however, 3 children living with them:

1. Joseph KEITH, age 6, b. June 1893 in KY, each parent's birth states shown as unknown. Joseph KEITH's relationship to the head of the household (Frances E. KEITH ) is shown as 'Adopted Son'. It is not clear if KEITH is his adopted last name, but given that his parents' birth states are unknown, that is a possibility.

2. Lilian HAMMOND, age 9, b. August 1890 in KY, each parent's birth states shown as unknown. Lilian HAMMOND's relationship to the head of the household is shown as 'Adopted Daughter'.

3. James (initial 'F.'? hard to decipher) RUTLEDGE, b. November 1881 in TENNESSEE, both parents born in TN. James RUTLEDGE's relationship to the head of the household is shown as 'Adopted Son'.

As interesting as the Francis/Frank and Zerilda Elizabeth story is, they are not part of my direct line, and i need to move on. They seem to have no direct descendants of their own, but perhaps someone who is descended from one of these 3 adopted children, or else someone looking for either the niece/nephew combo or the Furguson pair mentioned above will further this story, down the road.
