Hi folks, this is John in California.
We find Jesse Keith and his wife Nancy Cash Keith (1793-1858) in LaRue County Kentucky in the 1850 Census. Jesse was born about 1784 in Jefferson County Kentucky (KY), the son of William Keith and Elizabeth LaRue.
William Keith (Jesse's father) married Elizabeth LaRue in 1773 in Hampshire County Virginia and he passed in 1819 in Hardin County KY. William and his brothers, Henry, Alexander and John are descendants of John Keith, born in 1710 in Baltimore Maryland, the son of Alexander Keith of Scotland.
William and his brothers came to Kentucky from Washington County Pennsylvania along the Ohio River with a group of 300 Patriots to protect Lousiville Kentucky during the Revolutionary War. The brothers and their offspring eventually settled in Muhlenberg County Kentucky after stays in Hardin and Logan County KY.
William would have a large family in Kentucky, including Jesse. William and Elizabeth's children included; John Keith (1774-1829), Jacob Keith [1776-1830), Amy Keith (1778-1844), Sarah Keith (1781-1844), Jesse Keith (1784-1858), William Keith [1786-1824), Daniel Keith (1788-1818), Isaac Keith (1791-1846), Priscilla (Keith) Duncan (1793-?) and Henry Keith (1795-1840).
Jesse Keith, William's son, married Nancy (Cash) Keith in 1810 in Hardin County KY. Jesse passed in 1858 in La Rue County KY and Nancy Cash Keith also passed in 1858 in LaRue County KY.
Warren Thompson Keith and Jeremiah Cash Keith were two of Jesse and Nancy's offspring. Warren was born in Oct 1825 in LaRue County KY and Jeremiah in 1826. Warren would marry 1st to Frances Ellen Shipp in April 1850 in Hart County KY and Jeremiah would marry Mildred Miller in 1852. We find Jeremiah (J.C.) and Mildred in the 1860 Census in Hodgenville, LaRue County Kentucky.
We find Warren Thompson Keith (W.T.) and his wife Frances in the 1860 Census in Hammonville in Hart County Kentucky. Their children are listed as Alice Ann, age 8 (1851-1917), Sarah A., age 5 (1854-?), Richard Jesse, age 3 (1856-1906) and George Waller, age 1 (1858-1881).
We find W. T. Keith, age 46 in the 1870 Census again in Hammonville in Hart County Kentucky. He is listed without his wife, Frances, who passed in 1869. His children are listed as Sallie A, age 15, Richard J., age 13, George W., age 11, Martha, age 7 (1863-1936), Elizabeth, age 5 (1865-1885), Henry Lewis, age 3 (1866-1935) and twins, James (1869-1873) and Mary as 10/12th (1869-?). Nancy Keith (1867-1867) and John Cash Keith (1854-1854) are not listed. The 1870 census records Warren as having assets of $1600 in real estate and $1380 in personal estate.
In the 1880 Census, we again find Warren T. Keith, age 56, now with his second wife Jane C. (Jennie Brown), age 34 (married 1870) and children living in Hammonville in Hart County KY. Their children are listed as George W., age 21, Martha, age 17, Henry, age 12 from his marriage with Frances Shipp and Jane C. Keith, his second wife, and their children are; Ida, age 8, Albert, age 6, Kate, age 4 (1876-1975) and Florence, age 2.
Warren Thompson Keith would pass in Jan 1883. His wife, Nancy Cash had a brother named Warren Cash and is likely the source of his first name. Nancy's grandfather, Thomas Cash married Nancy Thompson from Virginia and is likely the source of the Thompson name.
Jesse Keith had a brother, Henry Keith (1795-1840). Henry's son, Warren Keith was born in Aug 1818 in Hardin County KY and died in May 1892 in Yolo County California. Warren was the son of Henry Keith and Nellie (Edmonson) Keith. (Daniel) Walker Keith was their other son (1815-1901) and Daniel passed in Nov 1901 in Coffey County Kansas.
Jesse's had a cousin, Jonathan Keith, who was born in 1775 in Washington County PA. Jonathan was a son of John Keith (brother to Henry, Alexander and William mentioned above as sons of John Keith, born 1710 in Baltimore). Jonathan Keith would have many children with Elizabeth Irwin (married in Nelson County KY in 1804), including a son, Warren Keith, born in 1819 and he passed in 1874. He married Elizabeth Chambers. Jonathan also had a brother, William who had a son named Warren Keith (1807-1862).
So, like John, Jesse and William ... Warren was a popular name for the Keith family Kentucky offspring.
