Hi,
I have heard that I had a great uncle Augustus Kiefer, son of Joseph Kiefer and Louise Ortlieb from Lewis county/watertown area. He would have been born sometime around 1900.
Let me know if you think there may be a connection.

PS: augustus's brother Alvin changed his last name to Keifer instead of Kiefer.
