Greetings, I found this site on the web and wondered if you might be able to help me, in some way, find my grandmother.
I am searching for my paternal grandmother, May C. Keever. I did find listings of her as a employee at the Dayton State Hospital from November 1915 till 1918 at the Ohio Historical society a couple of years ago. She was also listed in the Dayton Ohio phone book during those years.
She gave birth to my father on October 20, 1915 in Dayton (Miami Valley Hospital). I have my father's birth certificate as well as a copy of the adoption papers.
I've been searching for my grandmother since 1983, when my father, who was terminally ill, told me about his birth parents. I have been unable to find a birth listing for May. I think she may have been born in 1896 (If she told the truth on my father's birth certificate). I've spent days and days in both Lebanon and Dayton government offices searching through old books containing birth dates, marriage dates and death listings and have found no trace of her.
I do know that:
She lists Mason, Ohio as her place of birth
She listed her occupation at that time as a shell loader
She went to Dayton to give birth to my father
She was unmarried. The father was Ralph LeFever (I have found this family and even have pictures of Ralph and keep in contact with one of his daughters from his marriage to Belle Nixon)
I think maybe she had an open adoption and knew the family that adopted my father (Lonie and Lillie Franks from Dayton)
Some the obstacles have been:
I don't know who her parents are
I don't know where she went after the employment at Dayton St. Hospital in 1918.
I don't know if she ever married and changed her name
I don't know if she remained in Ohio or moved away
I don't know when she passed away
After all these years, there's three things I'd like to find (1) her birth date and her parents' identity (so I know which Keever line I'm from) (2) Somehow find a picture of my grandmother and (3) Find her grave so I can say hello and goodbye to her.
