Philip:

Can you provide any more information about John Keep's arrival in Springfield in 1644? The John Keep book (published 1899) asserts that a Feb. 18, 1660 request for "entertainment" was the first record of John Keep in Springfield and that this indicated his appearance in the town.

The Keep book further states that John Keep married Sarah Leonard (b. Dec. 13 1645) on Dec. 31, 1663. Their first child, Sarah, was born Dec. 5 1666. It is supposed that John Keep was only slightly older than Sarah Leonard, but no evidence is suggested to rule out the possibility that he was somewhat older. Is there any reason to suggest that the John Keep in 1644 was the same (at age say 20, born about 1624) versus the father of the John Keep in question (possibly born in Springfield after 1644). In that case, the 1660 request for boarding with some family (entertainment) might indicate that something had happened to the elder John Keep.
