Keenums from Bedford County, VA
When I started this quest, all I knew was that my grandfather's name was Charles B. Keenum and that he was born in Colorado around 1889 (got this info from my mother's birth certificate.)I didn't even know his parents' names, other than the fact that his mother's first name was Olive.I also knew that he had a sister named Winnie who married a relative of Kit Carson.
I have since learned that he was the son of Charles W. Keenum, born 1860 in Ross County, Ohio.Charles W. was the son of James Middleton Keenum, born around 1832 in Bedford County, Virginia and Joanna Neff of Ross County, Ohio.James M. was the youngest son of Richard Keenum (1786?) and Nancy Williams, both of Bedford County VA.According to familysearch.org, Richard was the son of Alexander Keenum and Sarah (unknown).Alexander may have been born in Bedford County, too.
I cannot find any record of an Olive Keenum.A 1910 Alpine TX census shows Charles Keenum (age 50) living with wife Clara (47), son Charles B (21), daughter Winnie Carson (22), and grandson Glen E Carson (1).I'd like to track down any other descendents of Alexander & Sarah Keenum of VA and find out who my great-grandmother Olive was.
James M. Keenum was supposed to have had two other children in Ross County, OH:Ami, born around 1854, and William, born around 1856.
