Thank you. That's encouraging.
The history of Fabius, NY (1878)includes the following:
Among the first settlers were Simon Keeney (born in CT);
The oldest native resident of the town is John Keeney, 81 years old;
The Baptist Church, 1803, listed as members Thomas Keeney, Elijah Keeney (Elijah Kenney Sr. was born in Connecticut and lived in Sparta, New York, very near Alexander, but I don't know if they are the same person, or parent/child).
The 1820 Census for Fabius lists the following Keeneys:
James, John, Thomas, Benjamin (Keeney)Kuney, and Simon. In 1820 and 1830, Alexander Kuney (Kinny) lived in Perry, Genessee County, NY, so I would like to believe that they had continued on toward Sparta, where they would remain. I hope to locate conclusive evidence of this.
As an aside, Raymond Kinney opines that Alexander was one of the Scottish prisoners sent to Massachusetts in 1652 aboard the ship John and Sarah. If that is true, he was on the same ship, and taken prisoner at the same battle as David Hamilton, the originator of my mother's line. (The Kenneys are my father's line.) Another source states that the reference to Scotland really refers to the section of Hartford called Scotland.
There are many mysteries still to be solved.
Regards,
Ann
