I have a letter written in 1972 by Marion Butler Keenan of Kearney NJ, USA, (my husband's maternal g-grandmother) regarding a sale of a home represented by Collins & Collins, 5 Hill St, Newry, County Down. The sellers were sisters Alice and Nellie Morris, cousins of my husband's grandmother. I have no interest in the property, nor the sale, but am trying to find any relatives in the area. I don't even know the outcome of the sale, for it seems the Morris sisters were selling the home, and the letter was written to represent the owner's living descendants in the USA...
Anyway, The home was willed to James Keenan. The real estate firm thought there were no descendants of James in the USA. The letter was written to disprove this. The letter states that James Keenan, was the son of James Keenan of County Down Ireland. The property was Bevin, Mayobridge, Newry, County Down.
Descendants were noted as Anna Keenan (never married no children), Nellie Keenan, had only one child who was deceased, James J Keenan d. 1939 who had a son James Keenan, Francis Keenan never married no children, Edward Aloyisis Keenan d. 1957 leaving 4 children, John J children Alice and Mary Ann of Iowa, and Mary Keenan-Black (alive as of 1972.)
Per the 1900 Jersey City Census, James Keenan II was living in the USA with wife Annie and children: James, Allen, Edward, Annie, and John Jr. The children were born in PA. I am told by my husband's grandmother that the Morris sisters were unmarried. Does anyone have any info on this family? It seems that there are plenty of Keenans from Newry. I thought I'd just have to try to find out if there was family still in the area for I am having a tough time solving this tree beyond the last known relative of Ireland.
