Oct 8: As the result of a prize fight in Covington, neb., between William Duffy and Jack keefe, the former was knocked out in a five round contest, and died an hour after from the punishment inflicted.
Oct 5 1895: miss Margurite Keefe, of Fremont, O, who has been the guest of her sister Mrs. Ellen Moriarty, of this city, for the past week, returned home on Thursday.
Sept 26, 1896 : Fate of a Brave Fireman (title) The explosion of giant powder and the rattle of small arms aroused the whole city, and the glare of the flames brought the fire department promptly to the scene. One line of hose was laid, and gallant Jerry O’Keefe, foreman of hose company No. 2, seized the nozzle. He stood on the corner of Seventh and Orange streets, and the stream had just begun to come when a bullet fired from behind sent O’Keefe to the earth, bleeding from a mortal wound. It was a shot aimed by a dastard and cowardly band to assassinate a brave man in the discharge of his duty. Armed men were hidden in various places about the Coronado shaft, and prevented the firemen from working. The hose cart, with Fire Marshall E. V. Roder and one other fireman drove along Orange street, and when beneath the tremtle started to reel off the hose….The dead are as follows: jerry O’Keefe, Foreman hose No. 2, aged 24, shot through the body…
