Sophia Kibble/Keeble, 1800, Meigs County Ohio
Hello,
I have been at a stumbling block for about 5 years now regarding the colonial ancestress of my family. Her name was Sophia Kibble and she emigrated to Ohio from Virginia around 1800 -- on horseback with only her infant son John. Or so the legend goes. She never divulged her maiden name and claimed John's father was a William Keble/Keeble/Kibble. She emigrated to Olive Twp in Meigs Cty, Ohio-- which was part of the Ohio Company land. I cannot find her anywhere in the record but I did find some deeds that John was a party to once Meigs Cty was broken out from Washington Cty in 1819. I cannot find her in any of the censuses and the one William Keeble I have found emigrated to TN after the Revolution with his wife. I am pretty certain she came from Fauquier Cty and I have looked at the tax lists from there for 1790 and 1800. I am wondering if John was illegitimate --- but then again if she was destitute how could she have afforded to purchase the property from the Ohio Company..????
Can anyone help???
Thanks!
