John Keay, Sr. and Peter Grant were members of the Army of Scotland who were captured by the British at the Battle of Dunbar in 1650. The British sold them as endentured servants along with about 120 other prisoners to the Iron Works in Lynn, Mass. Can be found online as the Saugus Iron Works. John spent at least part of his servitude in Dover, NH where he married Sarah Church. She and son James were apparently killed in an Indian raid on S. Berwick, ME. Later John, John Jr. and daughter Abigail were captured in another Indian raid and taken to Quebec to be prisoners of the French. Book by Joyce Keay Lundin for more details. ajlundin@dnet.net My mother was Jane Keay and was descended from John III, Mary Tibbetts brother. Grizzel's mother was Johanna Ingersoll.
