I read your information about William Keaton and found it interesting. I have been researching the Keatons in NC and I have that Peter, William and John Keaton were in Alexander County, NC in 1780 (per Heritage Book). Also have Peter and William in the 1790 Iredell County Census. Their name was spelled as Caeton in this census. They appear to have left for Wayne County, KY in 1810. I also have Miles Keaton and wife Rebecca moved with their children from Iredell Co to Wayne County, KY in 1810 and then to Clinton County, KY in 1823, then to Fentress County, TN in 1823 and to Platte County, MO in 1838. Sherrod Keeton/Eliza, Alfred Keeton/Elizabeth Cullom stayed in Tenn in Clinton Co then Overton Co, Tenn. Both sons died in the 1850's in Overton Co, TN. Both wives of Sherrod and Alfred were left with children to raise alone. Mary Clarissa Keeton/Robert Stewart, died in Andrew Co, MO in 1858. Rebecca Keeton lived her last years with this daughter. When Clarissa and Robert died their children were raised by other families. Burgess Keaton/Nancy and children moved to Platte Co with Miles and Rebecca. Sometime after his fathers death in 1845 he moved to Calhoun Co, IL. Burgess Keeton died in Clahoun Co, IL in 1864. They had four children. Two sons and daughers. Lively Keeton/David Bruton moved to Platte Co, MO the same time the rest of the family did in about 1838. Lived in Clay county until land was opened in Platte Co, Mo. Lena died and David remarried. Malinda Keeton/James Hays also moved to Platte Co, MO. Later they moved close to Kansas City, MO. Martha Keeton moved with her parents Miles and Rebecca Keeton in 1838 and later married Richard Stewart in Clay Co, MO. Miles Keeton died 1845 and is buried somewher in Platte Co, MO.
I don't know if this is the same William or not.
I have also found a message on the message board that is in response to an inquiry from Cheri Caton "concerning Charles Caton of Prince George's Co, MD b 1733 and moved to Rowan Co, NC. There is a book by Dodd and Holweck "The First Three Generations of John Summers of Prince George's County, Maryland" in which Charles was married to Jemima Summers and moved to Rowan County, NC. The book is published by the authors and is in the Prince George's County Genealogical Society, Bowie, MD 20715. I am interested in Charles Keaton? ancestors and their son William Caton who may be my g-g-g-grandfather".
As was stated with Peter, William and John from Alexander county they were listed one time as Keeton and one time as Caton.
I do not have a lot of information but I am reading a lot of the messages and know what we have researched at the Iredell County Library.
Hope this helps.
