I’m trying to locate some more information on a member of the John Hutchison Keating (1856-1946) family of Strathadam. Jon, son of Patrick and Margaret, with his wife Ann E. Walsh had a daughter named Mary Elizabeth born in 1884, it appears that she is the oldest daughter. I’ve located information on the 1891 and 1901 Censuses for the family. I also have Mary Elizabeth’s baptismal record, though I could not locate her birth certificate.
Mary is my great-grandmother, she married Robin Abram Smith (born in Connecticut, resided in Lawrence/Methuen Mass.) sometime between 1900 and 1903 and relocated to Lawrence or Methuen Massachusetts.
The strange thing is that she then became known as May E. Smith (1910 US Census), and later she was known as Florence M. Smith (on her death certificate and gravestone, but people called her May). Also, Robin and May named their 1st child Florence in 1903.
Her brother Arthur John (2 years younger) moved to the States, and lived with Robin and May for sometime (1910 US Census-confirmed). Also, a much younger brother Francis relocated, as well, and 1st lived with Arthur’s family.
I’m trying to locate evidence of a marriage between Robin and May in N.B. between 1900-1903. I’ve tried the online record and came up short. I’m also trying to figure out why she changed her name.
Any help in unraveling this mystery would be greatly appreciated.
