The following family members relate to Co. Limerick, Ireland and then to NY city after 1926.
James KEYES b. 1792, d. 1825.
Thomas KEYES (b. 1848?) m. Margaret REARDON (b. 1857?) had Thos. KEYES (my GF, called Pop)
Pop's KEYES uncles were 6, 4 were doctors -- John KEYES, James KEYES, Edmund KEYES, Joseph KEYES.
Thomas Patrick KEYES ["Pop"] (b. 1878, Ireland, County Limerick --Hospital married to Margaret RYAN, he died 1960 in NY City). He had a 175 acre horse farm called Cringer in Limerick, sold horses in the early 1900's to Europe. When the Irish Independence was gained in 1922 he was unable to sell and had to decide to emigrate to USA in order to provide for the family. The farm was located between Hospital and Bruff in Knockalong (sic). The farm originally belonged to the REARDON's and they deeded it over to Thomas [Pop] KEYES, my grandfather. A Tolby BURNS (BYRNES?) had a horse farm, too, in the area.
He was married about 1910 in Co. Limerick, Ireland to Catherine RYAN (b. 1884). Had 4 children in Ireland: Mary, Edmund, Thomas, Margaret (Rita). Emigrated to NYC in 1926 and had two more children: Theresa, Joseph.
The story is that the HALE sisters (Rena and Emma, who never married) were cousins and acted as go-betweens for Thomas and Catherine in Ireland. Don't know much about the Hale line but it could set time frame and place with more info. I actually have a lot of info on Hale from the sister's letters but don't know the tie-in to Keyes or Ryan.
Other names in the family were Gracie RYAN (d. 1998). Fergus & Maria Keyes. The Reardon's, our cousins, still live in the old Keyes home in Hospital - house name is "Cringer". Annie Keyes (Thomas Patrick Keyes' sister). Ambrose Keyes. Maura Ryan (Kate Ryan's daughter who is a nun in Ireland at St. Perpetua's Convent, now ? convent, in Ireland). There was a Phillip. And one of them got into trouble with the law (Simon?) and fled Ireland to Australia with his twin daughters. The daughters eventually moved back to England where they died without marrying.
I have a reference to a Joanna KEYES as godmother to Patrick Naughton who was born 1820 in Bruff Parish, Co. Limerick, don't know her affiliation to my lineage.
I know this is all out of order and confusing, especially to me! But if you have any info or places I can go I would certainly appreciate the help.
Thanks for reading and Good luck to you, Mary Thompson (firstname.lastname@example.org)
