KEARNS pronounced "Kerns" or "Kairns"?

We pronounce our surname "Kairns". I wonder what is the origin of the pronounciation difference and what percentatge of Kearns emphasise the vowel? How do you pronounce your Kearns?

Paul J. Kearns,

(Chesterville/Mayo Kearns)
