Hi Elaine: I research the Irish Family History Foundation's database. It contains 12,000,000 surviving rcds for abt 65% of Irish counties. Rcds are increasingly sparse B4 1840, rare B4 1800. Note 1 - Without a KNOWN county, the chance of an ancestor's rcds NOT being in this database is AT LEAST 35%. Note 2 - Only 1/2 of Co. Cork's rcds are in this database. Note 3 - The RC church kept control over most parish rcds from Tipperary (north). These are ONLY available thru the Tipperary Family History Research center at a substantial fee (regardless of outcome). For Martha Hannon B 1844 (exact) somewhere in Ireland with the father's forename unknown, I found 7 rcds: Cork, Leitrim, 4-Antrim, Roscommon and Limerick. The father's name for the Limerick rcd is not recorded. For Michael Hannon B 1839 ditto, I found 9 rcds: 4-Limerick, 2-Roscommon, Leitrim, Meath, and Tipperary. The father's forename for the Leitrim rcd is Michael. For Pat(rick) Hannon B 1846 ditto, I found 17 rcds: 2-Galway, 4-Limerick, 5-Sligo, Leitrim, Meath, Tipperary, and 2-Kildare. The father's forename for the Limerick rcds are Michael, , , . For Bri(dget) Hannon B 1835 ditto, I found 5 rcds: 2-Limerick, Leitrim, Cork, and Galway. The father's forename for the Limerick rcds are Michael and "Edm." Limerick appears as the only county in common with the above forenames. The occurrence of the common father's forename of Michael lends credence to this hypothesis. These Limerick rcds are highly likely to be for your ancestors. A view of the detailed rcds SHOULD show they have the same mother's name. For Pat(rick) Kearney B 1839 ditto, I found 19 rcds: Cork, 2-Roscommon, 2-Mayo, 2-Wicklow, Westmeath, 2-Limerick, Armagh, 2-Dublin, 2-Louth, 2-Tyrone, Antrim, and Kilkenny. One of these MAY be for your ancestor. You will need an exact DOB, parent(s) name(s), and/or placename(s) to pick which, if any, is the right record. Google the Foundation's name to lead you to this database. Register, opt to be notified as rcds are added and browse. Pls post your search results to my genforum msg. Hope this helps. Good luck.
