The John T. Kern that I have was born in NC in 1818, was married to Amanda Morris who was born about 1828 in TN. This was listed on the Panola County, TX 1860 census along with their children: James age 15, born 1845,in TN Elizabeth age 14, born 1846,in TN, Henry, Age 9, born 1851 in TX, Miles, age 6 born 1854 in TX, Thomas age 4, born in 1856 in TX, John age 2 born 1858 in TX. There is a H. J. Kern age 35, born 1835 in SC, on the 1870 census for Panola County, (I am fairly sure that this inital stands for Henry due to the daughter's first name) along with his wife Julia, age 27, and their daughter, Henryetta, age 7 and son , John age 3. I think there is a possiblility that this Henry is possibly John T. Kern's (born 1818) much younger brother, or a cousin...I feel pretty sure they are kin somehow. I have not been able to find the father of John T. yet...there is a John Kern in Mecklenburg county North Carolina, but I do not know if this is the father since the original name was Kearn instead of Kern or their is a possiblity that Kearn was a grandmother's maiden name. I don't have time to get anymore information on this right now...but will email you using the email you have registered with GenForum, if that is acceptable...and I will try to get more information, after the first of the year.
