Starting Sept. 5, 2014, Genealogy.com will be making a big change. GenForum message boards, Family Tree Maker homepages, and the most popular articles will be preserved in a read-only format, while several other features will no longer be available, including member subscriptions and the Shop.

Given that Maurice married in 1873 & was born in 1844, and you have his father's name, there is a chance that if you search thought Griffiths Primary Valuation ca 1850, available in the State Library, Melbourne, you may get lucky. The State Library also have the Tithe Applotments of the 1820s.

I suspect that you will find some DNA matches in the Cain DNA project at www.familytreedna.com including another Aussie or two.
