Your grandfather may have been Irish or English. "Keane" is a derivative of the name O'Cathain and through the centuries became O'Keane, Kane and Cain. County Cork and County Clare in Ireland are places where the name is very common. My family comes from Co. Mayo Ireland where the name is not all that common. I hope your search comes up with some answers for you.
