Jim, reasd your message about Ovid Keach. My wife's great grandfather was Richard Keach. As follows:
1. We have a court record that states Richard's uncle was
Ovid.
2. We have yet found out who Richard's father was, but
Richard had always said he was raised an orphan. He
admired Ovid so much that he named a son Ovid - who was
my wife's grandfather. We are quite sure that Ovid
raised Richard.Census records of 1850 show Richard was
born in 1814/1815 in Kentucky.
3. Ovid first showed up in Henderson County Kentucky in tax
records. He was not of legal age, [first taxable age
was 21,] but he was still taxed because he owned a horse.
This was in 1817, and the name spelling at this tine was
Keetch.
4. Anna Keechling shows up on the Henderson County Tax list
in 1816.
5. I am inclined to beleive Ann Keach was Ovid's mother,
because in the 1840 census there is one male child living
with her, and his age would fit Richard.Ovid lived
next door to Ann at this time, and he had several
children.None of these children fit Richard's age.
We found most of our information from: The Owensboro Library, the Henderson court house, and Brenda Keach Hester.
Brenda's address is 9001 HWY 1078 S. Henderson Kentucky 42420
We also received a rather extensive rundown on all Keach relations back to 1708.Of course the only flaw is proof of, or should I say supposition of who Ovid's parents were, and the missing identity of Richard's father. This outline came from Nancy Leeg Jankowski. If you will E-mail me your
E-mail address, I will be glad to forward, as attachments the 6 page outline.Contact me at [email protected]
