Merrit/Eleven Merrit Kays 1850's Kentucky

I'm stuck trying to find my Greatgrandfather. The problem seems to be that there were two Merrit Kays'.

My Grandfather was Jess Thomas Kays and he had two brothers, John and Granville. There was also a sister named Abby (I Think). Their father was one of the Merritts.

I am trying to find if this Merritt was the son of John or George Kays, and any other information about that part of the family. I'd be happy to hear anything you might have.
