The 1851 census for Lepton, White Horse pub, has Mary Wood, Head, Widow, 61, Innkeeper and farmer of 40 acres. (The White Horse is still there, at 315 Wakefield Road). The 1861 census has Mary WOOD, 73, Widow, b. Lepton, living with Eli KAYE, 19, grandson. Joseph Wood is listed on http://www.genuki.org.uk/big/eng/YKS/WRY/Kirkheaton/Kirkheaton34Dry.html But the 1822 directory lists Hannah Wood as victualler at the White Horse - Joseph's mother perhaps? I also have the Kirkheaton baptisms for 1800-1812. There is no Mary KAYE, but there are three Mary KAYs: 10 May 1801 to Joseph and Rachel of Lepton 28 Oct 1804 to William and Sarah of Lepton 16 Feb 1806 to Joseph and Betty of Dalton None of these father are ancestors of mine, although they may well be related. There is also a Mary Ann KEY 16 Nov 1806 to Robert and Hannah of Lepton (b. 9 Oct 1806) I don't know if you have the marriage but it is 22 Sep 1825. Mary Ann is 'of this parish', but Joseph Wood is from Thornhill. They were bachelor and spinster but married by licence. Hope this helps. Robert Kaye Notify Administrator about this message?
