Connie, the Kay book can be found in the SC Room of the Anderson (SC) Library and at the SC State Archives. Information on Elizabeth's mother can be found in the Shirley book (published c.1967) by the late Ethel Updike, page 70. That book may be a little more difficult to find, but I can mail a few pages from my copy, if necessary. Armand Shirley (1792-1874) was a daughter of Benjamin Shirley (c.1762 Va.- 1824 SC) and Elizabeth Hughes (c.1770 Va.- 1826), daughter of James and Rachel Hughes. Updike identified Elizabeth Kay's father as Robert Kay, which is correct, but HIS parents she understandably misidentified (there being several Robert Kays). It should have shown Robert Kay's parents as James Kay and Grace Elgin, as documented in the Kay book. Anderson Library may have the Updike book, which includes many upper Abbeville County and lower Anderson County families. Mrs. Updike did an amazing job on that book, to which I have regularly referred over the past 35 years.
