Hello. I see a ton of information here on kavanaghs from all over the globe, as well as those who came from Ireland to Newfoundland. I am aware of 2 distinct groups on the Avalon Peninsula in Nfld...one group settled the Bell Island/Portugal Cove area, and there is another group on the Southern Shore in Ferryland/Calvert. Does anyone know if these 2 groups are connected by a common anscestor ? I understand the first Kavanagh in Bell Island came from County Wexford, Ireland. Oral history of the group on the Southern Shore gives conflicting information....County Cork and/or County Kerry...it's possible the first immigrant was from County Kerry but sailed out of Cork. Does anyone out there have any information on the Kavanaghs from the Southern Shore and/or know if there is an anscestral connection with those on Bell Island ? All and any replies appreciated.
