SHREVEPORT, LA - James Jacob Katz, 91, died peacefully on November 24, 2009 at his residence. Chapel services celebrating his life will be 1:00 P.M. Friday, November 27, 2009 at Rose-Neath Marshall Street. Officiating will be Rabbi Jana De Benedetti assisted by Rabbi Foster Kawaler and Rabbi Arnold Task. Visitation will be 11:00 A.M.until service time at Rose-Neath Marshall Street Funeral Home.
James was born April 20, 1918 to Sadie and Abe Katz and was a lifelong resident of Shreveport. A 1935 graduate of Byrd High School, he attended LSU from 1935-1937. He served as a commissioned officer in North Africa during WWII. After his military service, he worked as a salesman and retired from Selber Bros. after many years of loyal service. James was a member of the El Karuba Shriners and the Masons, Broadmoor Lodge # 432. He was also a member of B'Nai Zion Congregation and Congregation Agudeth Achim.
A devoted husband, father and grandfather, he is survived by his wife of 64 years, Sylvia S. Katz of Shreveport, LA; son, Stephen P. Katz, M.D. and wife, Karen S. Katz of Alexandria, LA; and grandchildren, Jeffery M. Katz and Laura A. Katz both of Atlanta, GA.
The family is grateful for the kindness and compassionate care given by Dr. Alan Borne, the physicians of Regional Urology, Dr. Christopher Sneed and Christus Schumpert Hospice. Special gratitude is given to Mr. Jeff Crane and his staff including Diane McCarty, Gwen McMillon and Rose Watkins for their untiring and dedicated service.
Pallbearers will be Jeffery Katz, Jerry Katz, Donald Meltzer, David Murov, and Richard Murov.
