I saw your message on Katz family in Chicago.I am from Sacramento, CA. My grandfather's brother was David Katz, son of Isaac and Anna Katz. David was born in New York, but spent the majority of his adult life inand around Chicago.David met his first wife in DeMoines Iowa. Her name was Jean DeNelsky. David went to Drake University where he played the violin. He playedchello with the DeMoine Orchestra. Jean was a math teacher. They married and then moved to Chicago.David and Jean had one daughter,Edith Katz, who was raised by her grandmother Anna Katz, after her mother's death.David was a musician for the Chicago Symphony. He met his second wife, Marie with the Symphony. She was a harpist.David went back to school and studied law. He became a lawyer for the musician's union. He became quite famous for his accquiring royalty rights for the musician's original works.
David's father was Issac Katz. He had friends from Chicago named Schneiderman and Mulamuds.Issac came from Minx,Lithuania. He worked in New York in the sweatshops. He married Anna Ogus or Auguz( a most common German name)in New York. She was from Wilman or VilnanGaberna Lithuania. They owned a shoe store in New York before moving down south.Isaac and Anna were working in a shoe store in El Paso Texas for a time as well. They had three children:Abraham Louis(my granfather),David, and Beatrice.
Issac had sibblings: Benjamin Katz was a cattle rancher from Minneapolis, Minnesota.Samuel Katz was from DeMoines,Iowa. There was another brother from Washington state, and another one from Iowa. They has a sister,do not know her first name, may have been Jetta or Yetta, not sure. She was tall, had grey hair, blue eyes, was deaf, and lived in New York. She married an Irish man whose last name was Barney.Isaac Katz died in Chicago in 1934.Anna Katz died on 4-19-1956 in Bessemer,Alabama, where her daughter Beatrice lived with her family.I have more information on Anna Katz as well.If these are the Katz's you may be looking for, or any of this information connects with Katz that you have found in Chicago, please contact me and we can share information. Thanks,Linda
