The history of Captain John Kathan
I have recently purchased The History of Captain John Kathan. I am A descendant too. My father was Dexter Warner Kathan,Jr.. My grandfather was Dexter Warner Kathan, born on July 8,1895, son of Warner H. Kathan and Della E. Kent. ( as described on page 106 of the book)I also purchased a Currier and Ives Family Register with the Walpole, Westmoreland, NH family names - 1819 -1921.
Several years ago, a man and woman from the mid-west stopped in Bellows Falls looking for their ancestors (Kathans) and visited my uncle,Clayton Kathan. The story (as we and they know it) goes like this.In the early 1800's two Kathan brothers fought and one moved across the Connecticut River from Dummerston, Vt. to Westmoreland, NH. and never spoke again. Both sides lost contact. Well- now we have found each other! They had traced their ancestors to Westmoreland and then found no more. We had the missing part and they furnished my uncle with our missing part! I'll try to find info for anyone.
