John David Kastler, son of Chretian Emmanuel and Catherine (Morel) Kastler, was born in 1802 in Belmont, France. In about 1830, John David married Paisable Charite (Muller) Kastler, widow of his cousin, Joseph August Kastler. His wife had a daughter, Paisable Charite, born of her first marriage. John David and Paisable had the following children: Catherine Louise Kastler, born December 25, 1831 in Belmont, Bas-Rhin, France, died July 22, 1881 in Edna, Labette Co., KS; Charles Louis Kastler, b. December 20, 1832, France; Henry Kastler, b. May 2, 1838, France; Sophia Amelia Kastler, born May 21, 1843 in France, and Henrietta Rosalie Kastler, born in France.
In 1844, John David, his wife, their children, and his step-daughter came to America on a sail boat on which they had to prepare their own meals. After arriving in America, they travelled by wagon and boat to Illinois where they settled near Sandwich. Three years later, they homesteaded land near Leland at $1.25 per acre. John David died in 1854 and was buried in Banzet Lutheran Cemetery near Somonauk, IL.
Catherine Louise Kastler, oldest child of John David and Paisable Charite Kastler, married Charles Ferdinand Banzet who was also born in France and had come to America about 1850. Catherine Louise and Charles Ferdinand had the following children: Rosanna (Feb 10, 1854--Oct. 13, 1870 in Storey Co., IA) Emma (Feb. 10, 1854 in Lasalle Co., IL--Dec. 18, 1944 in Labette County, KS) Charles Albert (Sept. 29, 1856 in Marshall Co., IA--April 29, 1951, Labette Co., KS) Mary Louise (November 26, 1858 in Marshall Co., IA--August 6, 1946, Craighead County, AR) Henry Gustavus (June 15, 1861, Marshall Co., IA--Dec. 31, 1943, Kansas City, KS) Edward Banzet, July 26, 1863--April 1, 1935) Josephine Elizabeth, (Feb. 26, 1865, Marshall Co., IA--Jan. 20, 1912, Bellingham WA) Francis William Banzet (December 9, Iowa--Feb. 19, 1948, Bartlett, KS) Augustus Banzet (Dec. 13, 1870, Storey Co., IA--November 14, 1955, Edna, KS).
