PATRICIA,

I am the grandson of John Kasprzak, who was born in Cheboygan @ 1910-1916. He was the son of Showpern and Ursula Kasprzak, who lived in Cheboygan, Michigan. Susan Cooper has posted a separate message in this same forum, under the subject "Kasprzaks of Cheboygan/Danzig".

My father is John Edward Kasprzak, Jr. He was born in Cheboygan on Easter Sunday, 1937. They moved to Niles, Michigan when my father was a young boy--sometime in the early 1940's.

My grandfather passed away in 1976, while I was away at college. My father and mother moved to Texas shortly thereafter, and I relocated to Houston when I graduated from college in 1978.

I knew John's brother, Stanley, pretty well. They would come to visit quite frequently during the holidays. (It was not unusual for there to be 15-20 adults and 20-30 children at their home in Niles on any given holiday. The family was very tight knit, and social). I believe that Stanley and his family lived in Hamtramack during the 60's and 70's. My grandmother's family, the Elliots, also lived in Hamtramack, although I believe that she grew up in Cheboygan. Her name was Myrtle Elliot.

I had always heard that John's father (Showpern) was the Chief of Police in Cheboygan during prohibition. Ursula would have been my great grandmother; I think I attended her funeral when I was 12 years old. She was buried in January of 1970, at the Catholic cemetary in Cheboygan, and it was 22 degrees below zero on the day of her funeral.

John and Myrtle had 6 children in all. Dick was the oldest, followed by John, Jill, Fern, Bill and Tom. There are 17 grandchildren; I am the oldest grandson. All of the children and grandchildren are still living, and many have children of their own.

Please let me know if you are able to gather any other information about the family, or if there is anything else you would like to know about John and his descendents. I would love to know anything else that you find out, but I don't want to bore you with too many details about the children and grandchildren of John and Myrtle.

THANKS,
Dan Kasprzak
