I believe you are referring to Wm.M. Karnes b. 6/29/1842 in Johnson County, Ark. d.5/3/1920 Paducah,Ky. buried at Oak Grove Cemetery. He raised by his uncle Rev.Walter Karnes near El Dorado, Illinois, with the 75th Illinois Volunteer Infantry during the civil war & was listed as a musician & wheelwright. Married first to Letitia Clayton-children James & George died in infancy, Ernest, Herman, Ada, William M. Jr., Mary. married (2)Miss Alice Smith-children Elizabeth and Reuben Jack. Wm.M. was a carriage maker, builder & contractor in Paducah & a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church. I think, but cannot prove, that his father was James W. Karnes, a veteran of the Mexican War who was born ca. 1804 in Hawkins County, Tennessee & died in Ark. shortly after returning from the war. I have copies of military records etc., and additional information on this family, please feel free to email me for more details.
