The name Kappel is Swiss. It's the German word for chapel. It's a place name and people from there took the name. You may find different spellings of it. Back in time a person only had one name. As populations increased people started having a family name and a given name. Then people were given a middle name and some had even more names. People with royal blood were the first to have more than one name as it was important for inheritance purposes and blood lines. It's natural to find people in countries down river (the Rhine)from Kappel, Switzerland as they removed to new territories. The Rhine was the route to start the trip to America for the Germans and Swiss. People with the same name may not be related closely even if they came from the same town but they may still be related if you go back in time far enough. If you go back 20 generations you will have about 1,000,000 ancestors. It is more than likely that some of those ancestors will be the same person in several lines of your ancestors. If you go back enough generations there just wasn't one million people.
