I've met a man named Capeller and he searched al lot about the names Kappel, Cappel and so on and he said, that the name originally came from Prussia and that a "Kappeller" was a Prussian cannoneer. There must be a lot of Kappels in Austria and Bavaria. I live now in Munich and there are many registrations in the telephone book. Originally I come from the Southwest of Germany (Baden-Wuerttemberg) and there are hardly any Kappels - but more little towns with this name.

I'm searching for my family for a long time, but can hardly find any information because in the World War II everything was destroyed because there must be some Jewish Kappels in the northern part of Germany as well.

I believe that the spelling was changed many times...

Greatings
Melanie
