Tom Kantz was the grandson of Reubin B. Kantz who in the 1870's built a home on the Susquahana outside of Burnside, PA. The house remained in family hands until the 1970's. For about 50 years the house was only used as an occasional summer place. It recieved electric service in the 1930's and a bedroom was retro-fitted with a flush toilet, otherwise it remained as it was in the 19th centrury. As a child in the 1950's, I took baths in a galvanized wash tub in water heated on the wood-burning kitchen range.
My grandmother, Violet Kantz and 9 of her syblings were born in this house. She and several others moved to the Detroit, MI area where they are buried. Buried in the Burnside Cemetery are her parents and several of her syblings.
The above url gives Reuben's dates as 1848 to 1950. I believe he died 30 years earlier.
