The Kanatzer name negan as KNRTZR, then
became Knoertzer. I have found 27 variations due
to Americanization of names, the fact that many
people in the not-so-distant past were illiterate
and at the mercy of census takers and record
keepers, and that families would change spelling
to keep the pronunication correct. The Knoertzer/
Kanatzer/Canatsey ancestry goes back to Killian
Knortzer/Knoertzer of Baden, Germany.
