Sarah Evans - adopted 1819. Lawrence, Evans, Kaiser, Brown
I am looking for my great great great Grandmother, Sarah Evans Lawrence. She was adopted at 3 years of age in 1819 by the Kaisers of "Kaiserville, NY".
Her birth family came from Wales to New York sometime before 1816.Sarah was born in NY on Aug 7, 1816.The family purchased a farm, where her father was murdered by the previous owner, and her mother died within the next three years.Sarah and her siblings were spread out, and she was adopted by the Kaisers. She was raised as their own child, and they were a family of some means.Sarah was their only child.
Between 1834 and 1836, Sarah married JOHN HORATIO LAWRENCE.John was originally from England, possibly Birmingham, and was a veteran of the British Army, serving in England and India.Although his parents had 10 children, only he and an older sister survived - she was 10 years older and was named Ann.He came to America in 1830 and settled originally in Montreal, Canada. He eventually found his way to New York and became friends with Mr.Kaiser.
In about 1838, John and Sarah moved to Pennsylvania, then Huron County, Ohio. After the Civil War, they moved to Richland, Nebraska.John died in Richland on April 29, 1880 and Sarah died February 22, 1892 in Brighton, Colorado where she lived with one of her children.
The couple had 10 children:
Lafayette
Sarah Ann
John Horatio, Jr.
Mortimer J.
Blanche
Augustus Warner
Edward (d. in Infancy)
Mary Josephine
Frances Elizabeth Brown (my Great Great Grandmother)
William Henry
I am looking for any information on Sarah's birth family, the Kaisers, her husband, John Horatio Lawrence, Sr., or his sister Ann and their parents.
Anything would be great, and I will gladly share what I have on the Lawrence family, as well as the Brown's.
Thanks so much!! Jen Brown
