I've been investigating the Kieser family, who are ancestors of my brother-in-law, and have found the following on John Kieser and his children. Can you tell me which of John's children is your ancestor?
JOHN KIESER (c. 1864-1900) was born in Mannheim, Baden-Wurttemberg, Germany about 1864, according to LDS FamilySearch (and the fact that he was born in Germany was confirmed on the 1900 Census). He did not appear in the 1880 U.S. Census, which seems to indicate that he emigrated from Germany between 1880 and his marriage in 1887, but no confirmation of his actual arrival has been found on immigrant websites.John did file a Declaration of Intent to become a citizen on 2 Aug. 1894 in the U.S. District Court - Eastern Division, Eastern Judicial District of Missouri.John married KATHERINE (KATE) LAUHON (1857/64-1932) on 28 Dec. 1887, probably in St. Louis, Missouri. They moved to Phelps County, Missouri to farm and had seven children.Kate, the daughter of Burton Lauhon and Elizabeth Nelson, was born 8 Oct. 1864 in Missouri (according to the information provided on her death certificate), although the 1870 Census indicated that she was born in 1857 and one LDS source gives 8 Oct. 1859 as her birth date. Her father died when she was young and by 1880 she was working as a seamstress. All of the couple's children were born in Phelps County, and John died there about 1900.By the time the 1900 Census was taken that year (on 11 June 1900), the widowed Kate was living in Phelps County with all her children and farming in Spring Creek Township, on the border between Phelps and Pulaski Counties. They had an Irish-born servant, John Flaraty, aged 45, living with them and probably helping on the farm. The effort to keep the farm profitable must have failed, because by 1910 the family had moved to the city of St. Louis, where Kate may have had relatives, and only William, Mildred, John and Burton were living with their mother. In the 1920 Census, Kate was still living with Mildred and Burton, but by 1930 she was alone.According to Missouri Death Certificates, 1910-1956, Kate died from heart trouble in St. Louis on 27 Mar. 1932 (aged 67) and was buried in Friedens (Evangelical Lutheran) Cemetery 30 Mar. 1932.At the time of her death, she was living at 1418 Augehodt, St. Louis (Ward 26).The information on her death certificate was provided by Elizabeth Collins, who was possibly her daughter Bessie.
John's children were:
1.Elizabeth (Bessie) Kieser, born 18 Oct. 1888 in Phelps County, Missouri, possibly married Daniel J. Collins (b.c. 1884) and lived in St. Louis, Missouri
2.Jenevive (Genevieve) Kieser, born 21 June 1890 in Phelps County, Missouri, in 1910 was living with the family of Mahlon Stouffer in the city of St. Louis, possibly working as domestic
3.William Kieser, born 22 June 1891 in Phelps County, Missouri, married Lillian Estelle Narbut (b. 1900) about 1917 in St. Louis, moved to Chicago, Illinois about 1929, died in Chicago in Jan. 1952 -- had 2 children
4.Myrtle Kieser, born 9 Aug. 1892 in Phelps County, Missouri, in 1910 was living with the family of Mahlon Stouffer in the city of St. Louis, possibly working as domestic
5.Mildred Kieser, born 17 Feb. 1895 in Phelps County, Missouri, married John Krebeck 16 June 1926 in St. Louis, died 31 Dec. 1965 in Bel Nor, Saint Louis County, Missouri -- had 1 child
6.John Thomas Kieser, born 13 Apr. 1896 in Phelps County, Missouri, died 24 Dec. 1918 in St. Louis, Missouri (possibly in the flu pandemic)
7.Burton Kieser, born 31 Oct. 1898 in Phelps County, Missouri, married Jennie Wilmes (b.c. 1901), died 9 Apr. 1948 in St. Louis, Missouri (per his death certificate)
