Charles McKagin b1781 NJ son of James Kiggin of Phila. PA
Posted by: Art Kagan (ID *****1324) Date: July 20, 2002 at 21:14:09

Charles McKagin /Keggan /Kagan born 1781 lived in Cokesbury area of Hunterdon Co NJ around 1800. He was the son of James Kiggin from Phila. PA and Sophia Pickel from Lebanon NJ. Sophia Pickel was the daughter of Conrad Pickel and Hannah "Anna" Sharpenstine. I was told by a relative the name was of Scotch origin. The "Mc" was used occasionally for two generations. Charles had a family of 8 children and was married to a Sophia Apgar daughter of Jacob Apgar born 1746. James Kiggin might possibly have been the James Kegan who was indentured to John Wilcocks in Philadelphia 1773. James Kiggin and Sophia Pickel were married in New Jersey December 1780. James' wife died as Sophia Keggan in Lebanon NJ around 1811. Charles also had a sister Mary who married James White in Hunterdon Co NJ 1804. I posted to this particular forum because the name Kagan sounds like Kaighin more than Kiggin. Any help in finding James' origins or death record would be appreciated.
