I have information from a book on History of Putnam County stating that John/Johann Kahle, together with Father William Horstmann and six others, were the first German settlers in Putnam County. Originating in Glandorf, Kingdom of Hanover (Germany), they departed 1833, traveling to New York City, to Albany, to Buffalo, to Detroit, to Cincinnati, to Putnam Co., OH, arriving in the spring 1834. Cincinnati seems out of the way, possibly checking in with the archdiocese? Johann and Delia Wilberding were both born in Oldenburg, not Glandorf, so they must have moved to Glandorf at some point in their young lives.
