Matthews/Richardson/Justus/Hoggard/Clemons - AR

Hi Everybody -

I am trying to figure out my great grandmother's family, and I know virtually nothing. She didn't want us looking into the family history for some reason. I have a few old pictures with writing on the back of some of her family that connects her as a cousin somehow to the Justus family in the Smithville, AR area. Specifically I have Eli Justis and Hattie, I think. She also has a picture of an "Uncle Henry Clemons" who it says is actually a cousin. Don't know anything about him. She is related to a Martha Matthews - don't know how. I know her sister's name was Lottie Matthews Hoggard, that's one thing I know for sure.
I am also told she has a couple of brothers in the Imboden and Blackrock areas of AR. One of them is a half brother, I think. Maybe both are, I'm not for sure.

I found something online tying our Aunt Lottie Matthews Hoggard to a Mr. Andrew Richardson. I don't know who he is. Says shes his granddaugther. Don't know anything about that, and can't find anything at the moment.

I'm told a couple different things about my great grandma - and that is that she was indian. My grandma didn't talk about it much, because her mom wouldn't have it. But she told my aunt and uncles she was apache. That's all I know. My dad said he knew what kind, but can't remember how it was pronounced (I'm guessing Lipan, based on what he tries to say when he's trying to pronounce it). I have no idea, though. My grandma's sister, Lillian, said they her mom was full blood apache.

I can't seem to find anything on her or her family at all to figure out anything about her one way or another.

If any of you can give me any clues where I might start looking, I would really appreciate it. Hopefully some of this information might be helpful....I have more details, too, if you think you might know something for me, and need more to go on.

Thanks!

Sherri Ann Phillips
