I am another descendant of John James Juhan. At least I believe that he was the father of my ggg grandfather, Alexander Stephen Juhan born 1765, died probably 1845. Someone has submitted information to the Mormon Library which states that James was born in Canada in 1740. Recently a musicologist from Charleston contacted me asking for information on James and Alexander Juhan who were prominent musicians in Charleston the late 1700's. According to him (his source being an obituary in a VA newspaper) James died 23 March 1797. He also stated that James and family came to Charleston in 1771 from Boston. There is some information on James in a volume called
"Music in Colonial Massachusetts," Vol 2, Appendix C, pp. 107994.
According to a family history composed by my gg grandmother, Emma Juliette Juhan Breaker, Mary Payzant Juhan died prior to 1789 and before the family came to Charleston. James died in Charleston after a long illness during which his only daughter, Marie Elise, cared for him. This is not proven, but a marriage is recorded for Marie Juhan and Rene Godard (July 29, 1795)in "SC marriages 1693-1842". I am trying to reconcile these different pieces of information.
Hope some of this might help you.
