Please pardon my taking the liberty of e-mailing you uninvited but I have just started researching my own ancestry and found several coincidences from your posting of July 2, 2000 with what I recall of my own history and wonder if you would be so kind as to examine your family bible and other records for mention of my grandfather Joseph Howard JUDD, born 1879, died (the same year as your Addison) 1944 in New York.
The coincidences I mentioned are as follows:
1).My father often made mention of an "Uncle Add", possibly the older brother of my "Joseph Howard".
2).On three sheets of yellow legal sized paper (one lost now) my grandfather Joseph made mention of moving to Nebraska at some time in his youth.Apparently he chose not to stay there and returned to New York, bringing with him a prized "six- shooter" he obtained there, also now lost.
3).The last known residence of any of my direct Judd ancestors (except Joseph) was in or near the city of Auburn,NY, which is perhaps 50 miles west of Canasota, in Oneida Co. just next to Madison Co.As a child, I visited my father's "Aunt May" (perhaps the widow of Addison ????) there with my parents in 1950 or so.
Though not a Doctor, Joseph Howard did fairly well for himself and his family as a designer and manufacturer of custom hardware (door knobs, hinges, etc.) for the "carriage trade" with an office on Madison Ave. in NYC which I have visited. One of his last contracts was the outfitting of the William K. Vanderbilt mansion in Centerport, Long Island, NY.
I would be most pleased, if it is not too great an inconvenience, if you could search your records for mention of "Joseph Howard" born in or near the year I have from his headstone, and let me know what you find.
If you are further interested in this branch of the Judd family in New York, I'd be happy to provide what information I can.
I am, most sincerely, John Harold Judd at e-mail: [email protected].
