Mitchell, I am very greatful for your response to my query regarding Matilda Jowell or Matilda Goggins. To my knowledge Elihu and Elizabeth Jowell Goggins made the trip from SC to Pontotoc Co., Ms. along with the Jeremiah Cobb, my gg grandfather, family. Jeremiah did not complete the trip. He either died before the trip started or along the way. His wife Elizabeth and all their children did make it to Pontotoc Co. The suggestions that Matilda was a Jowell or Goggins was resonable to me, and that her son James A. Cobb was visiting with an Aunt and Uncle during the 1860 Pontotoc Co., census. If I find anything concrete on this dilemma I will certainly let you know. I have been in this root digging business long enough to know that "thinking" doesn't get it done, but as the long years pass by, I'm more and more inclined to do so.
