Dear Eddie,Your files on the 8 children of Samuel and Elmira Joslin agree with mine, except for the eighth, "Elvina".It is always difficult to read old census copies, but I have long suspected that #8 was actually named "Elmira" (after her mother--and possibly after a grandmother).Samuel's wife Elmira I have seen spelled "Elvira'.
Now as to the Indian blood, I am exploring both the Hurst and Joslin lines to find the source.Their 4th child, Palina,
was my paternal grandfather's mother and she was unquestionably part Indian--and quite a bit.Grandpa denied it all his life, but family traditions are too strong, too credible and too many to gainsay the facts.
Further Grandpa himself, and five of his 10 children had distinctive Indianfacial features.Fewer had Indian coloring but my
Aunt Mary Dott could have passed very easily for a half or even a three-quarter blood.
What tribe? Some of his kids thought
Cherokee. But Palina and her mother, Elmira,
were both born in Choctaw and Chickasaw areas.Wish I knew!G. D. Spradlin
a half or even a three-quarter blood.
