My parents collected old bibles, and one bible that we found has the following information in it. We live in Madera, California which is about 30 minutes away from Fresno. There apparently is a A.E. Joslin who lived in Fresno in 1920, but have not found any additional information on him.If you will please e-mail if you know, or are related to these individuals, our family would like to make sure this Bible is with the rightful family.
The Bible contains 2 locks of hair in it.
The Bible has two obituaries in it:
Eunice A. Joslin, born 1823 in New York and died on her daughter Nellie's Wedding Day, 9/13/1881 in Durand, Illinois. She was married to George H. Joslin who was born + or - 1823 in New Hampshire and George and Eunice were married in 1842.They had 3 children; Henry, Nellie and Nellie.
Nellie Joslin (the youngest)was born 12/7/1860 in New Hampshire and died 12/29/1894 in Milwaukee, WI of Typhoid Fever. She married Charles E. Grout who was born May 1858 and the last census I saw for him was in 1900 in Milwaukee, Wisconsin.
The Census that I pulled Eunice and George's family information from, was a census of Durand, Illinois where there children were listed. Nellie and Henry are listed as both the same age, so I don't know if they were twins, but were born in 1844 in Illinois. Henry married Bell K. who was born in 1856. I couldn't find anything about Nellie, his twin. There is also a small note in the bible that reads: "If you read the bible every day, you will learn to love it B.E.G." Maybe B.E.G. is Charles' mother or sister and they gave this to Nellie? Not sure...but please contact me if any of these names are familar to you. Thank you!
