Native American surname Joseph- Maine c1782

Am trying to find the Real surname of my 4th grt. grandfather Joseph Moody who was born c1782 in Maine he says per the 1850 Brunswick, Cumberland Co., Maine census, where living with him was Hannah Moody age 56, Apey (or Abby or Happy or A. P.) - female- age 40 b. ME
Caroline Moody age 38, b. ME, Daniel Moody age 20 b. ME, William Moody age 15 b. ME and Abner DELAWARE age 23 born CANADA. (Abner's name was most likely Benjamin DROUIN b. 1827 in St. Francois, Beauce Co., Quebec, Canada), I have his lineage as son of Joseph DROUIN and Catherine BOLDUC daughter of Ignace Bolduc and Catherine Pepin.
I believe that my 4th great grandparents Joseph and Hannah took on the Moody name in order to 'blend' into society and perhaps keep their Native American heritage a secret.
Since many of the Indians of Maine tribes were mixed with the French of Canada, they appear Very 'white' and Many of them passed as 'white' on the census'. Their son Joseph D. Moody born c1807 - 1821 was an Indian doctor in Lowell, MA for many years. He gave his birth place as Brunswick, ME and Canada alternately. His age was Never the same twice...always different from document to document.
He and Dr. Joseph Alex Masta were the only 2 'Indian' doctor's in Lowell, MA for many years. I believe they probably knew each other well. Dr. Masta was Native American from Odnak Village St. Francois, Quebec, Canada.
Hannah's maiden name is given as THOMAS, and she and Joseph Moody may have never married. They lived in Brunswick, ME from 1820 too 1850 at least that I can tell from the census'.
Any help or information Greatly appreciated.
Thank you
