Hi folks - all you fans of Samuel Silas Jordan and Cicely Reynolds!

There is an enormous amount of literature(with a lot of conflicting information) about these two on and off the net. Author Connie Lapallo is engaged in writing a bio-fiction novel on the life of Cicely having already published one on Joan Pierce, her aunt and guardian (another Jordan descendant).
[Dark Enough to See the Stars in a Jamestown Sky (Paperback) by Connie Lapallo (Author)].

A good place to start is:-

In 1618 [1620?] Samuel married Cicely a widow [2X?] with a young daughter, Temperance Bailey. Cicely was born in England in 1600 [1st M. AT ABT.13!] and arrived in America in 1610 aboard the Swan [WITH DE LA WARR].

Margarett Jordan 1 years
Temperance Baley aged 7 yeares

Cicely had at least 14 children in her life.
She only changed husbands because she was widowed (which says a lot about a man's life-expectancy in the early years of Virginia!).
She is sometimes called "the first mother of America".
Where she got the names Matthews and Greene remains something of a mystery.

NOTE: With these dates fath was just 16 and 12 yrs bef. marriage!
10. i. SAMUEL SILAS8 JORDAN, b. April 1578, in Wiltshire, England; d. April 1623, Jordan's Journey, Charles City, Virginia.
Samuel was a cousin of his wife Cicely's mother (Cicely Phippen/Fippen).
Samuel Jordan was aboard the Sea Venture, as were Sir Thomas Gates, the Governor, and Sir George Somers, when it encountered a severe storm off the coast of Bermuda in the latter part o f 1609. The Sea Venture was wrecked beyond repair. The other ships outrode the storm and proceeded to Jamestown with the Sea Venture's cargo but not her Passengers.
The officers and crew of the Sea Venture remained on the coast of Bermuda for nine months building two ships, aptly named Patience and Deliverer. These ships arrived at Jamestown in May 1610. Samuel Jordan, an educated man, was assigned the task of keeping a record of events which are found in Hakluyts "Voyages, Travels and Discoveries."
Samuel Jordan also was educated and was one of the authors of "The Book of The Fowler", which was the first constitution in the New World.
[NOTE: THERE SEEMS TO BE A CERTAIN CONFUSION WITH HIS UNCLES SAMUEL AND SILVESTER, AND VARIOUS VERSIONS OF HIS PARENTAGE]
Some claim that Samuel (1559) was his father.

Samuel's estate was administered 19 Nov. 1623 by William Farrar, whom Cicely married abt. Mar. 1625
Farrar arrived in 1618 on the Neptune

Samuel had several male children by his first marriage with Frances?, and possibly one, Richard, posthumously by Cecily (It is reported that Cecily refused Rev. Pooley's advances in 1622-23 on the grounds that she was pregnant). The influential Quaker preacher, Thomas (Fleming) Jordan Jr., is said to be his grandson.

Why his birthplace and that of some of his children is often given as Wiltshire is a mystery, when his family came from Weymouth. I suspect his first wife Frances? may have come from Wiltshire.

By the way, I have elaborated a rather speculative tree back to Reginald Jordan(1210), Hereditary Forester of Windsor Park. See "Jordan of Enville or Munslow?" thread.

I hope this is helpful!

Michael Lutley Jordan
