Frank, I just don't know. I have a great grandfather whose second wife gave wrong father upon my ggrandfathers death in 1940.
And in 1927, an uncle gave wrong wife to my grandfathers death records.
Sometimes, sons just don't know the right answers and other people may have done the census information. It is a mystery. Perhaps, my people were just ignorant.
I am unable to find Joseph Jones b. 1810 Ga. in the 1820 census either. He had to live with someone at that age, and I assume the unknown father was dead. Perhaps, the mother remarried and Joseph is listed under the new surname.
In 1810, Nathaniel and Isaac Jones ( both names of Josephs' future sons) were in Morgan Co.Ga. census.I believe these are brothers.Isaac married Milly Willingham, and may be Joseph Jones 1810 uncle. But,father unknown. My assumptions are based on the following:
Marriage of Joseph 1810 and wife Elizabeth Walden b. 1813 Ga. are listed (27 Nov. 1834 in Coweta Co.Ga.)and recordedin theIsaac/Milly Jones Bible records ( on line). Eliz. Walden was daughter of Alexander Walden.
To be recorded in a family Bible, I assume Joseph was related to Isaac and Milly Jones. Perhaps, he lived with them?Another mystery.
Joseph named his first son Nathaniel and the second son William. That has been no help to me in finding a father.
Joseph Jones was in 1840 Heard Co.Ga. census as blacksmith.
By 1859, Joseph was in Calhoun Co.Ar. where he andfirst wife Eliz. Walden deeded land to Jones Cemetery.Elizabeth also died in 1859and was first person buried there.
In the 1860 Calhoun Co.Ar. census, William is the eldest son living with Joseph. Joseph Jones had married Eliz. Mays Moselyand sonNathaniel A. Jones had also married.
Besides the 1880 census which you noted, Joseph is mentioned in several legal records. On 21 Dec. 1880 Joseph applied Homestead Acat for land in Calhoun Co.Ar.
In 14 Dec. 1880 Land and log dwelling, etc. valued at $250.00 on tax lists.
Joseph died in Calhoun Co.Ar. in 1890. He is buried in the Mt. Pleasant Cem. next to his first wife.
In 1863, Joseph and second wife Eliz. Mosely deeded more land to Jones Cemetery.Later, a daughter would deed the rest of the cemetery land to the Church which still stands.
I know you have researched a lot of Jones leads.I have also. The irritating part is that Joseph had such a large family who all lived a long life in Arkansas.Did they know nothing?Did they pass on nothing? As I read the Arkansas obits lately, time is running out on anyone of my generation who might know something about Joseph Jones 1810.
Please keep my info in mind when you search your records.
You might be the break for a future generation of sleuths.
This is a lot of info for someone who is not related to take in and remember. But, Time is running out for me too.
Thanks. C. Jones
